There was a recent initiative to enable the 28 houses of Blenheim Close, Lancaster Drive, Harris Gardens, Smith Barry & Wellington Road to connect to the VF gas network, as they were closest to the network. If this was successful, then maybe it could have been rolled out elsewhere in the village.
The quote was £5,284.00 + VAT for each of the 28 properties from CM Utilities in the last 10 days. With the contribution reducing to £4,855.00 + VAT per property if all properties have or will have gas central heating installed*. CM Utilities insisted that brand new gas supply pipes would have to be laid.
*Please note that the proposal was subject to acceptance by the network owners concerned and does not include any appliance conversion costs.
Regarding, the above quote, after canvassing a few of the 28 houses involved, some owners voiced their concerns at the quoted price and I understand their anxiety. One has already said no, therefore we cannot be connected, as all 28 had to agree.
Consequently, this has put paid to any chance of Natural Gas at the moment.
However, speaking to a professional advisor, he said our pipes are of the same quality as those fitted 20 years later in VF, and he was very confused why we need new supply pipes. He said, all that was required was the LPG supply be capped off and the installation of a reduction valve. We investigated this today and we have been advised to call “Wales & West” and are therefore back to where we were 3 years ago (£5000 per household)
There maybe one last straw to clutch, an alternative LPG supplier for the whole village, with a cheaper price, this is also being examined. Will report if applicable later in the week.
Finally, if no solution is forthcoming before Winter, we as a household will look into the installation of an Air Heat Source Pump.
Sorry, that we cannot report a better solution. Although there are others in the village who I know will keep trying.
