We have lived in UR for 9 years and in that time, there have been some very major changes throughout the village. These changes have been very positive, making the expanding village a very nice environment to live in. The housing is well spaced and the community is friendly and accommodating. The new housing complements well the original ex-RAF married quarters, the latter being a mix of Officers and Airman housing constructed many years ago to a very good standard. There are also featured buildings like the Officers Mess, Ex Station Headquarters to name but a few, which have been converted into very fine houses.
We have a brand new Cooperative Supermarket in the Parade Square, along with a Gym, Charity Shop, Chemist and Cafe and if you need a local pub the Lamb at Great Rissington is a pleasant hostelry that serves local beers and good food.
The new Village Hall recently acquired by a Trust plans to manage the facility and encourage a community spirit. The Rissington School enjoys extremely positive feedback from Ofsted and in itself is a magnet encouraging young families to move into the village. Once the development is complete, it will have trim trails, play parks, cycle paths, new sports facilities, attenuation pond and opens spaces for you to walk and cycle along.
If you enjoy motorsport we have Rissi Kart Club and of course flying with the RAF with 637 Squadron using gliders. Neither are obtrusive and both add to the mix. In fact, it’s a quiet place to live and if you want to enjoy the countryside there is a great network of Bridleways and Footpaths to walk away the cobwebs and the enjoy fresh country air.
If it’s a livelier environment you wish for, then Bourton-On-The-Water, Burford and Stow-on-the-Wold are all in easy reach. As we are in the Cotswold district all the towns mentioned are pretty tourist traps and can be busy in the Summer, which gives you the impression that you are always on holiday.
