Sqn Ldr George “Johnny” Johnson DFM RAF (Ret’d)

Squadron Leader George ‘Johnny’ Johnson MBE DFM RAF (Ret’d), the last surviving British member of the Dambuster Raid, visited RAF Brize Norton on the 9th January 2018.

Proudly wearing his newly awarded MBE, Johnny visited RAF Brize Norton to be interviewed by the BBC’s Sophie Raworth, on board an A400M Atlas aircraft of No. LXX Squadron, for a BBC Breakfast report.

Johnny was the Bomb Aimer on Flight Lieutenant John McCarthy’s Lancaster AJ-T, of No. 617 Squadron, tasked to attack the Sorpe Dam on the night of the 16 May 1943, as part of Operation CHASTISE.
